Movement Physics Concepts

R5 Movement System balances game-feel responsiveness with robust physics simulation.

Slope Sliding Dynamics#

When the player enters a slide:

  • On flat ground, slide friction gradually brings the character to a halt.
  • On downhill slopes, gravity vector projection actively accelerates the player, rewarding players who navigate sloped terrain.
  • On uphill slopes, friction increases to prevent unrealistic climbing.

Wall Running Mechanics#

  • Side Traces: The component casts horizontal side traces to identify valid runnable walls.
  • Gravity Scaling: Gravity is reduced during the wall run, allowing the character to glide horizontally.
  • Camera Tilt: Smoothly interpolates the player camera roll (default: 12 degrees) away from the wall to create high-speed cinematic immersion.
